Pedraza has a long history. The first traces of humans were found in the Cave “ La Griega” where there can be seen a collection of cave paintings. These prehistoric paintings belonged to stages of Paleolitic Superior, around 18.000 years ago. Later on, in the Roman Period, according to several authors, Pedraza had the honour of being emperor Trajanos’s home town.
Its most wonderful period came in the 17th century, as a consequence of the flourishing wool trade.

In 1951, Pedraza was declared Historical Monument. In its paved streets, there can be seen the main Door of Villa, The Medieval Prison, The San Juan Church and The Castle.

At Cultural level,  there is a sublime event called “ The concerts of the candles”. Every first and second Saturday in July, Pedraza holds these concerts. These days Pedraza is decorated with 25.000 candles.

Also in September, Pedraza celebrates the festival of its patron Saint, La Virgen del Carrascal, from 7th to 12th September. On morning of the 9th a remarkable “ encierro” takes places.
